Job Summary
Under the direction of the Regional Manager Aboriginal Health, plans, organizes, implements and evaluates nursing care for Aboriginal clients with chronic, acute, palliative or rehabilitative health care needs in community and hospital settings. Nursing care includes assessments, direct nursing care, case management, health teaching to clients, support consultation, liaison and referral while functioning as a member of a multidisciplinary team. The incumbent ensures that client self care and independence is maintained, and participates in the administration of all Acts and regulations applicable to nursing functions.
Qualifications
Education, Training and Experience
* Graduation from a recognized nursing program.
* Current practicing registration with the
College of Registered Nurses of British Columbia (CRNBC)
* Must possess comprehensive knowledge of medical/ surgical/ gerontological nursing as well as knowledge of Aboriginal Health approaches, protocol and cultural issues.
* Knowledge of British Columbia Long Term Care and Community Health Programs.
* Minimum of two (2) years' experience in acute care hospital setting in the past five (5) year's or a minimum of two (2) years of experience working in the Aboriginal community.

* Ability to use the nursing process, teaching skills and knowledge of community resources
* Use sound professional judgement, empathy, tact and integrity
* Prioritise workload, keep accurate records and write reports
* Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
* Establish work relationships with staff, public and groups
* Adapt and accept change as the program evolves
* Deliver culturally sensitive services to Aboriginal populations
* Utilize independence and initiative to plan and organize work
* Other abilities as per job description
* Travel is a requirement of this position Transportation arrangements must meet operational requirements
